Two unidentified assailants shot dead national-level kabaddi player Sukhwinder Narhwal (24), in Haryana’s Rohtak district on Tuesday evening. The incident took place at Rithal village and was captured by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby house. At least five bullets were pumped into Narhwal’s head, while one hit him in the chest.

The Haryana Police has registered an FIR and claimed that it has got vital clues about the assailants. A few suspects were detained for questioning on Wednesday but no arrests have been made in the case. To avoid any tension in the area, police have been deployed in the village. Police are scrutinising Sukhwinder’s mobile phone call details.

The CCTV footage, seized by the police, shows Sukhwinder walking along a road while speaking on his cellphone, when he is accosted by the two armed youths, on a two-wheeler, approaching from the opposite direction.

The pillion rider first shoots him and Sukhwinder falls to the ground after a bullet hits him in the chest. The duo then shoot him in the head five times, from point-blank range, and speed away.

Sukhwinder is survived by his parents, two sisters and an elder brother.

“We have got some vital clues in the case, but the details cannot be divulged at this point of time. We hope to catch the culprits soon,” said Rohtak SP Shashank Anand.
