Rotavirus vaccine can help reduce infant mortality rate

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J P Nadda Saturday rolled out the rotavirus vaccine, which aims to save about a lakh lives per year from diarrhoea. “This is not a routine programme. By launching this rotavirus we are taking a pledge to give this vaccine to 27 million children throughout the length and the breadth of the country. This is certainly going to help in reducing infant mortality rate and also ensure that public health is taken care of,” Nadda said here.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Odisha health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak were present during the launch. The vaccine was developed by the Ministries of Science and Health and Family Welfare through public-private partnership under ‘Make in India’ initiative.
