2 Lashkar militants killed in encounter in Pulwama

Two Lashkar militants, including a ‘commander’ who was wanted in 2015 Udhampur attack, were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

The Army and the Special Operations Group of J&K Police launched an operation at Padgampora area late in the afternoon after receiving information about the militants. A group of Lashkar militants was sitting in the marshy area of the village when the Army cordoned off the area, said sources.

Officials said that the militants opened fire on the forces and escaped towards another village. However, two militants were killed in the ensuing encounter. Their bodies were recovered from the encounter site. One of the slain militants has been identified as Abu Okasha.

According to the police, Okasha was a resident of Khyber Pakhthunkwa in Pakistan and was wanted in the Udhampur attack of August 5, 2015. The identity of the other militant is yet to be ascertained.
