IN THE wake of the surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army across the Line of Control, an alert has been sounded in Mahaharashtra.
According to officials, security has been stepped up at vital installations and places with heavy footfall in all major cities across the state. Besides extending security cover, the police have intensified patrolling and nakabandis at all prominent check-points. The Quick Response Team (QRT), the specialised unit of the Mumbai Police formed after the 2008 attack, has been deployed at sensitive points.

Mumbai, which has been on high alert since two schoolchildren spotted suspicious men in Uran, continues to remain under a tight security blanket.
“Though the Uran alert turned out to be a hoax, the city has been on high alert since the Uri attack and also because of the festive season, which will continue till Diwali. However, after the surgical strike carried out by the Indian Army, security has been intensified at vital installations, especially sensitive structures,” a senior official said.
The Navy too has put up a security cordon at all its bases. It has cancelled some events scheduled for the next few weeks. “In view of operational developments, certain activities of the Western Naval Command have been cancelled. These include ships being open to visitors originally scheduled for October 1 and 2 and NCC Cadets/ Sainik School/ School Childrens Day at sea, which was scheduled for October 3. Citizens are requested to disregard information regarding these events on hoardings which were put up earlier,” a Navu press release said.
