Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong is hosting a two-day IIM Shillong Golf Cup from Saturday, with corporate leaders, bureaucrats, policy makers and academicians participating it also discussing about emerging business opportunities in the Northeastern region.
Informing this IIM Shillong director Prof Amitabh De said the annual golf event, which is the eighth in as many years will bring together several top corporate leaders alongside government representatives, bureaucrats, policy-makers as well as academicians.
“Top corporate leaders, government officials, policy-makers and academicians will take part in a plenary session where they will discuss and deliberate on emerging business opportunities in the Northeastern region, especially in the backdrop of the Act East Policy,” Prof De informed.

Those attending the golf tournament and academic session include top executives from corporates like Adobe, Aircel, Deutsche Bank, EY,HP, Oracle, Tata, United Spirits and VMWare, apart from government representatives and ministers from Meghalaya and Manipur. Shillong has one of India’s most beautiful 18-hole golf course which was established by the British officers and tea planters way back in 1898.
Meanwhile, a five-km run orgainsed by the IIM on Friday in Shillong witnessed an impressive turn-out despite the cold weather in the hill station that the British used to call Scotland of the East.
