Have stopped using word ‘strike’: Manohar Parrikar

After facing flak from the Opposition for his remarks on the surgical strike across the LoC, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday told a gathering in Goa that he has now decided to stop using the word “strike” to avoid controversy.

“I promise not to speak on any controversial issues. I have already stopped using the word ‘strike’…But you (Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar) brought up the term (strike) in your speech referring to labour issues,” he said during the inauguration of a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Safran Helicopter Engines (SafranHE) in north Goa for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for engines installed in some HAL-built helicopter variants.

A few days ago, Parrikar had appeared to give credit to “RSS teaching” for the government’s decision to launch cross-LoC surgical strikes. The minister had trashed claims of such operations under the UPA, provoking a counter-offensive from the Congress.
