Freedom fighter and Tamra Patra awardee Madhav Shriram Korde, 86, allegedly shot himself at his home in Goa’s Ponda on Saturday. His family members said he was unwell for the last few months. On Saturday afternoon, Korde’s nephew reported to the police that he had shot himself in the abdomen area with a licensed .22 Long rifle.

“The family said he was keeping unwell due to stomach ailments. Despite medication, his condition did not improve. This might have driven him to the extreme step,” a police official told The Indian Express.
