THE THANE police on Wednesday recorded the statement of Moulini Kulkarni, the elder sister of former Bollywood starlet Mamta Kulkarni, in connection with certain money transfers made to her account by the latter.
Moulini said while she had been in touch with Mamta, she had no information about her financial dealings.
The Thane police probing the Ephedrine haul case have named Mamta as a wanted accused after their probe revealed that she could be involved in the conspiracy to illegally smuggle the Ephedrine from Avon Lifesciences Limited in Solapur to Kenya and use it to cook party drug Meth.

According to the police, Mamta was also present at one of the high-profile meetings at hotel Blitz in Kenya where the logistics of how the material was to be smuggled to Kenya from India were being decided.
So far, the police have arrested 10 persons for illegally smuggling Ephedrine and named seven as wanted.
“We have to present a strong case against Mamta and in that connection we were recording her sister’s statement,” said an officer.
The police did not divulge details about the nature of the questions asked and the replies given.
“By and large, while she admitted to being in touch with her, she said she was not aware of any of Mamta’s financial dealings,” said the officer.
A source said the police had also recorded the statement of Ritaben Goswami, sister of druglord Vicky Goswami, also a wanted accused in the case.
Ritaben, who was also questioned in connection with certain money transfers, has told the police that the money was sent for investment in a property. “She says the property is currently under litigation and hence they could not develop it,” the officer said.
