Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari Sunday said that the BJP could not claim to safeguard interests of Hindus in Punjab as “it has been reduced to just a minority morcha of the Shiromani Akail Dal (SAD).”

Addressing a conference on the ‘political future of Hindus in Punjab’ organised by Hindu Jagrati Maha Sabha Punjab at Red Cross Bhawan , Tiwari said, “A common Hindu feels that the BJP … has no say or status in the government”, he said.

He said that while the Congress has always maintained a strong secular character and addresses the aspirations of all sections of the society, the BJP on the other hand has only exploited the emotions and sentiments of the Hindus in Punjab.

“There is virtually no development in the urban areas and trade and industry has been left out to their own fate by the Akali-BJP government,” he observed, pointing out that Hindus were integral part of the socio-economic system of Punjab and hence the Congress is concerned to let state go from chaos to anarchy.

Speaking on the occasion leading spiritual guru Acharya Pramod Krishnam, presidentof Bhartiya Sant Samiti, slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for first exploiting the sentiments of the Hindus and then letting them down. He also reminded Modi of his promises of cleaning Ganga and the construction of the Ram temple and the abrogation of the Article 370 before the Lok Sabha elections.
