Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari Sunday had separate meetings with RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat. While it couldn’t be known what transpired in the meetings, speculations were rife that the meetings revolved around impending Cabinet expansions at the Centre and state.
The two meetings happened separately with Fadnavis meeting Bhagwat at the Reshimbagh complex of the Sangh for about 40 minutes between 5.30 pm and 6.15 pm and Gadkari meeting Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters in Mahal area later around 8 pm. The two leaders were in the city for reviewing various developmental projects. They held meeting together with officials to check the progress of the projects.
All six BJP MLAs from the city also attended the meeting. The projects included All India Institue of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Government College of Engineering, Maharashtra National Law University, IIIT and IMA. While IMA has already started teaching at the Visveswaraya National Institute of Technology, progress of building construction in the MIHAN area was reviewed.

Gadkari also directed the officials to check if the academic session of the AIIMS could be started from this year. AIIMS has also been allotted land in the MIHAN area.
The CM later addressed party workers, directing them to remain in touch with the government representatives. He warned them not to make a vain display of leadership and work towards solving the peoples’ problems by remaining in touch with the government.
Gadkari, who was also supposed to attend the meeting, however, didn’t turn up and was closeted with Bhagwat.
The review of development projects and party workers’ meeting are being seen here as a prelude to the party’s preparation for the February 2017 municipal elections in the city. The party currently rules the corporation.
