Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday have got bail on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each in connection with the National Herald case. All the other accused have also received bail in the case without any conditions. Following is the chronology of events in the National Herald case:
* Dec 19: Sonia, Rahul, Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes and Suman Dubey appear before a metropolitan magistrate in Patiala House Courts complex here and get bail. Co-accused Sam Pitroda gets exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds.
* Dec 8: Delhi court directs Sonia, Rahul and others to appear in person before it on Dec 19.
* Dec 7: HC refuses to quash lower court’s summons to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in the case.
* Dec 4: HC reserves order on pleas.
* Jan 27: Supreme Court asks Swamy to make out a case for speedy trial in HC since petition cannot be heard directly.
* Jan 12, 2015: Judge recuses from hearing Sonia and Rahul’s plea.
* Dec 15: HC extends stay till disposal of the appeals.
* Aug 6: HC stays proceedings against Gandhis and others in the case.
* Aug 1: Delhi HC issues notice to Swamy on a batch of petitions filed by Gandhis and others in the case seeking stay on summons issued for August 7.
* Jun 26, 2014: Gandhis summoned as accused by a Delhi court in the criminal complaint for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring ownership of now-defunct daily National Herald.
* Jan 2013: National Herald case filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in a Delhi court against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, their companies and associated persons
