Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju Wednesday allayed fears of an alleged incursion by Chinese troops at Uttarakhand border and described it as a “small incident”.

“According to DG ITBP briefing, there was a small incident (at Uttarakhand border). No big intrusion like situation,” Rijiju said. Rijiju added that since the border is not marked between China and India, the two sides held talks.

Earlier today, Uttarakhand Chief Minsiter Harish Rawat raised alarm over an alleged incursion by Chinese troops in Chamoli district. Rawat, however, retracted his statement and said his government noticed an increase in the number of Chinese troops along the border.

“The state revenue authorities were there for mapping of our land and they noticed their presence. Earlier, there were sporadic incidents, but this time it is happening at a larger scale. However, I think that there is nothing to be alarmed as the activities were noticed in Chinese territory,” Rawat said.

Rijiju also sought a detailed report in this regard and promised that appropriate action would be taken if there was indeed a Chinese incursion.
