43 CCTV cameras have been installed at Srinagar Central Jail to improve the security system and ensure effective monitoring of activities of inmates, who include a large number of militants.

Director General of Police (Prisons) S P Vaid inaugurated the CCTV Control Room at the high security jail where a large number of militants, including foreigners, are lodged.

The CCTV cameras, installed at the jail, include 28 PTZ day and night cameras, 15 fixed day and night cameras, an official spokesman said.

These cameras have been installed at strategic points in and around the jail premises, the spokesman said before adding that these cameras would be an addition to the 30 others which were earlier installed.

“The CCTV Control Room will facilitate effective surveillance and coordination,” he said.

“The Prisons Department intends to incorporate technology into the Prisons design to improve security and level of control and supervision,” the DG prisons said on the occasion.

Vaid visited all the prisoners’ barracks and took stock of security and health care facilities available for the inmates. He also visited the Jail kitchen and reformation centres, the spokesman said.
