BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was on Sunday test fired from on board guided missile destroyer INS Kochi off the western coast. The “successful” test, according to Defence Ministry sources, culminated in the missile hitting the target successfully.
The success is significant, given that the missile provides the much-needed teeth to one of the most modern indigenous destroyer.

“The missile accurately hit the target, a decommissioned naval ship…This is significant step in the operationalisation of the Navy’s latest guided missile stealth destroyer,” a defence ministry source said.
“After two successful test trials from INS Kolkata in June 2014 and February 2015, today’s test firing from INS Kochi has validated the newly commissioned ship’s systems.
BrahMos as the prime strike weapon will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of Indian Navy,” Sudhir Mishra, CEO and MD of BrahMos Aerospace said.
The navy commissioned INS Kochi on September 30 this year.
The 7,500-ton indigenously developed warship incorporates new design concepts for improved survivability, stealth, sea-keeping and manoeuvrability.
