THE PATNA High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former RJD Siwan MP Mohammed Shahabuddin in the 2014 Rajiv Roshan murder case in which he is named as a conspirator.

Shahabuddin, who has been lodged in jail for 12 years, is likely to be released on bail in a few days. Convicted in five cases, he is serving life sentence in a murder case.

He is currently lodged in Bhagalpur jail, where he was shifted for allegedly interfering in the probe into the murder of Siwan journalist Rajdev Ranjan, in which one of his close aides, Laddan Mian, has been named.

Rajiv Roshan was killed in 2014, a few days before he was set to depose in court in the murder case of his brothers, Satish and Girish. The duo were killed in an acid attack in 2004, and Rajiv Roshan was a witness.

“We argued that my client has got bail in other cases and granting him bail would not impact Rajiv Roshan case in any manner,” said Shahabuddin’s lawyer Y V Giri.

Chandrakeshwar Prasad alias Chanda Babu, father of Rajiv Roshan, expressed surprise at the bail order. “I have lost my three sons… We have left everything to God now,” he said.
