IN THE aftermath of the recent terror attacks in Dhaka and Kishoreganj, Dr Gawhar Rizvi, senior advisor on international affairs to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Thursday said Bangladesh is open to seeking India’s assistance to fight terrorism.
“Whenever, wherever we need assistance we will seek it as fighting terrorism is our main concern. We are committed in fighting terror and are sure of defeating them,” Rizvi said on the sidelines of the BBIN Business Forum in Kolkata organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Asked about Bangladesh’s response to US Secretary of State John Kerry who offered FBI help in the investigation into the terrorist attacks, Rizvi said, “We are not averse to taking help from any country. Scotland Yard and FBI had helped us in May 2009 in the investigation into the mutiny of Bangladesh Rifle troops. We will take all the help we are offered. The Prime Minister has instructed us to share all information with partner countries.”

To prevent future threats, Bangladesh has launched a nationwide campaign to identify the youths who have been missing from their towns and villages and is willing to share this database with its partner countries, including India and the United States, the official said.
Rizvi further said the Bangladesh government was trying to find out the reason behind the youth getting detached from mainstream society. “We would form village communities, put up awareness programmes and check if there was anything wrong with the school curriculum. Those who were responsible for the terror attacks were not outsiders. They were from Bangladesh, our own children, who have to be corrected,” he added.
The blasts have, however, not dented business sentiment confidence in Bangladesh, the official claimed. “We are organising a meet with business houses of Bangladesh at Dhaka to apprise them of the steps the government is taking in fighting terrorism,” he said.
