Punjab: Ahead of 2017 polls, BSP promises 10pc quota for ‘poor upper castes’

For its Ghar Ghar Chalo campaign that begins on Tuesday, the BSP has formed 65 teams and around 15,000 big and small rallies as well as seminars would be conducted in the state under this campaign. According to the volunteers, the party will also take up “drug issue” during their campaign to eradicate this problem from Punjab. BSP state president Avtar Singh Karimpuri said that not a single house would be left out under this scheme and every single person would be made aware of BSP’s policies for the state.

A party spokesperson added that reservations for the reserved categories will continue along with the poors of the upper castes.

Usually pro-Dalit, the BSP has been making such statements to shed the image of a Dalits’ party among the voters of the upper caste.

The party has prepared a list of 28 agendas which they have been promising to implement once they are voted to power. These points are printed on a pamphlet which would be distributed to the people during this campaign.

The main points include free education and health services to the people of Punjab. To corner the SAD-BJP government, the BSP has also promised to punish those who are involved in ‘sacrilege’ of Guru Granth Sahib.

Kaimpuri said that they will improve the system after forming the government. He said that unemployment is a big issue in state and to eradicate it they will cancel the permits of buses of all big politicians in state and hand it over to the state’s poor, unemployed youth.
