Arunachal Pradesh to set up 21 women police stations

This decision of the state government, cleared in a cabinet meeting in Itanagar, came exactly three years after the fist women police station was set up in the state capital in 2013.

Arunachal Pradesh will soon set up 21 women police stations across the state and create over 400 new posts to run these police stations. This decision of the state government, cleared in a cabinet meeting in Itanagar, came exactly three years after the fist women police station was set up in the state capital in 2013.

The state that shares 1090 kms of international boundary with China, had in 2014 registered 351 cases of crimes against women. The National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) ‘Crimes in India Report’ for 2014 had also put the state’s crime rate against women at 57.4 per one lakh female population.

The state cabinet that met with chief minister Kalikho Pul in the chair in Itanagar on Monday, also approved a proposal for resolving the long-pending issue related to promotion of Constables to Head Constables. The Cabinet also decided to promote five seniormost Additional SPs to the rank of SP, and approved for creation of a police station at Palin in Kra Daadi district.

With construction work of the state’s first medical college in progress at Naharlagun, the cabinet on Monday also approved creation of 411 posts for it. Of these, 200 posts will be for faculty members and the remaining 211 for supporting staff. The upcoming medical college is being named after Tomo Riba, a former chief minister of the state.
