As the row over alleged financial irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) which he once headed echoed in Parliament Monday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, ignoring Congress calls for his resignation, dismissed the charges against him as “baseless” and “completely wrong”.

Accompanied by Cabinet colleagues, MPs, MLAs and lawyers, Jaitley also filed criminal and civil defamation cases in a Delhi court and the High Court respectively against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and five senior AAP leaders.

The Delhi government also decided to call a special session of the Assembly Tuesday to discuss the alleged irregularities in the DDCA and the CBI raid at the Delhi Secretariat.

In Lok Sabha, the Congress demanded Jaitley’s resignation and a probe by a Joint Parliamentary Committee into the alleged DDCA irregularities.

But Jaitley hit back at the Congress saying while two stadia in Delhi were renovated at a cost of Rs 900 crore and Rs 600 crore under the UPA rule, the DDCA constructed a new stadium at a cost of Rs 114 crore.

“I just want to say that this entire charge is baseless and and completely wrong,” Jaitley told the House while replying to charges levelled by Congress MP from Alappuzha K C Venugopal.
