Aman Vihar rape: Twitterati is angry, blames Delhi government

The news of the gangrape enraged the twitterati as they launched attacks on the Delhi government and expressed anger at the lack of women's safety in Delhi.

On Wednesday, two teenage girls, including a minor, were allegedly gangraped by five youths in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area, according to police officials. The girls, 18 and 17 years old, had gone to a government park in the area with two friends when the accused targeted them around 6 pm, police added.

The girls fainted due to the sexual assault and the five accused fled from the spot, said police. Their friends called up the police and informed them about the crime, police added. In the meantime, people from the locality also gathered at the spot.

Police said based on the statement of the two girls, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and medical examination confirmed sexual the assault. Both girls work in a factory, said police.

There are suggestions that minors were involved in the crime as the police is still investigating the matter. The incident comes after many reports and incidents of rape, including of minors, in various parts of the country.
