West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday paid rich tributes to the nation on the eve of the 72nd Independence day. Like other states, the metropolis witnesses grand Independence Day celebrations every year on Red Road with police officers, members of the civil society, social organisations and school children taking part in a parade, and Banerjee hoisting the national flag.
On the other hand, a famous kite-maker from Amritsar has created special kites with images of freedom fighters and top leaders to mark the day. In Rajasthan as well, commandos of the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and additional policemen have been deployed, including in and around the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, where the Independence Day function will take place.

India today gifted 30 ambulances and six buses to Nepalese hospitals, charitable organisations and educational institutions on the occasion of its 72nd Independence Day. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over keys of the vehicles to the representatives of the respective organisations at a function in the premises of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu today. A function was organised in Kathmandu to mark the Independence Day.Puri hoisted the Indian national flag and read out the message of President of India that highlighted the achievements of India in various fields in the past even decades.
Despite rains, the 72nd Independence Day was today celebrated across Odisha with gaiety amid tight security with the state government launching a health welfare scheme aimed at benefiting 70 lakh families. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the start of Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), an universal health coverage scheme, in the state from today while unfurling the national flag at Mahatma Gandhi Road here during a drizzle. Stating that the scheme would benefit 70 lakh families in the state, Patnaik said it would be implemented with the cooperation of everyone using the state's money.
