The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation school board is organising various events to mark the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s centenary. Apart from the events, the school board, with an estimated budget of Rs 5 lakh, will also distribute 55,000 books on Pandit Deendayal published by Bal Bharati.
While all schools have already been directed to organise special morning assembly sessions dedicated to Pandit Deendayal on September 24 (September 25 being Eid-ul-Adha holiday), students are also preparing for a debate competition on him for the district-level ‘Sonaba debate competition’ scheduled on September 23.

“As all principals of municipal schools are aware that the year is celebrated as Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth centennial year, who is the proponent of ‘from village to national awakening’. Since September 25 is his birthday all schools are directed to impart information on his life to students on September 24. Two-three students are to be prepared who would collect information on him and share it with all students during the morning assembly session in all schools,” stated the circular issued by the school board on September 19.
Along with this circular, all schools have been given a two-page note on Deendayal which has to be read out to all students. “These events are a part of the centennial celebration of Pandit Deendayal’s birth. There should be no objections to it as when the central government itself has announced the year to be celebrated in his memory,” said AMC school board chairman Jagdish Bhavsar.
While the municipal school libraries already have books on Pandit Deendayal, it would be distributing 55,000 fresh books prepared by Bal Bharati to all students from Class VI to VIII.
