FASTag Annual Toll Pass 2025 Overview: Launched on August 15, the FASTag-based annual pass system for private vehicles, aims to provide seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways (NHs) nationwide. Earlier, this pass has been available only for commercial vehicles, including cars, vans, etc. The move will further transform hassle-free highway travel in the country.
The FASTag system was first introduced in 2014 as part of the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) framework. The system uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to enable cashless toll payments and reduce bottlenecks at toll plazas.

In a written statement to Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon Session, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that vehicle owners are likely to save money due to this move. “…[B]esides reducing congestion at fee plazas, the actual savings for vehicle owners and the government’s revenue growth will depend on several factors including actual usage of vehicles and fee plaza crossings made in a year,” Gadkari added.
As per the Gazette Notification, a person who owns a mechanical vehicle registered for non-commercial purpose, having a valid and functional FASTag, shall be eligible to obtain a pass on payment of fee of Rs 3,000. This pass will be valid for one year, or for 200 crossings through any fee plaza on a national highway, whichever is earlier, irrespective of the fee charged at each fee plaza.
Documents Required for FASTag Registration
The Annual Pass cannot be issued on FASTags registered only with a chassis number. One must update the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) to activate the Annual Pass. One needs to submit the following documents along with the application for FASTag:
Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle.
Passport-size photograph of the vehicle owner.
KYC documents as per the category of the vehicle owner.
ID proof and Address proof
How to Apply for FASTag Annual Toll Pass 2025 Online
FASTag can be purchased from Offline as well as Online mode. For Online, the NHAI FASTag can be purchased from e-commerce websites. It can also be purchased from bank portals such as Paytm Payments Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, etc.
FASTag Activation Process
The Annual Pass can be activated only on the Rajmargyatra mobile application and NHAI website. It will be activated after verifying the eligibility of the vehicle and the associated FASTag. Upon successful verification, the user must make a payment of Rs 3,000 for the base year 2025–26 through the Rajmargyatra mobile application or the NHAI website. Once the payment is confirmed, the Annual Pass will be activated on the registered FASTag normally within two hours.

How to Renew or Update Your FASTag Pass
The Annual Pass is valid for one year from the date of activation or 200 transactions (trips), whichever comes first. Once the Annual Pass completes either 200 trips or one year from the date of activation, it will automatically revert to a regular FASTag. To continue using the Annual Pass benefits, the user will need to re-activate the Annual Pass to get 200 trips/one year validity.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Indian Highways Management Company Ltd. (IHMCL) have launched the 1033 helpline number to address NETC FASTag complaints at toll plazas.

If I already have a FASTag, do I need to buy a new one for the Annual Pass?
No. You do not need to purchase a new FASTag . The Annual Pass can be activated on your existing FASTag, provided it meets the eligibility criteria (i.e., it is properly affixed on the vehicle’s windshield, linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number, not blacklisted etc).

Which Fee Plazas are covered under the Annual Pass?
It is valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) fee plazas. At fee plazas on Expressways, State Highways (SH), etc. managed by State Governments or local bodies, parkings etc the FASTag will operate as a regular FASTag, and applicable user fee charges may apply.

Is the Annual Pass available for all vehicle types?
No. The Annual Pass is applicable only for private non-commercial Car/Jeep/Van after checking through VAHAN database. Use in any commercial vehicle will result in immediate deactivation without notice.

Can I transfer my Annual Pass to another vehicle?
No. The pass is non-transferable and is valid only for the vehicle on which the FASTag is affixed and registered. Using it on another vehicle will lead to deactivation.

Do I need to have the FASTag affixed on the vehicle’s windshield?
Yes. The Annual Pass will be activated only on FASTags properly affixed to the windshield of the registered vehicle.

What counts as a single trip under the Annual Pass?
For point-based fee plazas: Each crossing of fee plaza counts as one trip. A round trip (to and fro) counts as two trips.
For Closed Tolling fee plazas: One pair of entry and exit counts as one trip.

Will I receive SMS notifications related to my Annual Pass?
Yes. By activating the Annual Pass, you consent to allow Rajmargyatra to retrieve your registered mobile number from the issuing bank for the purpose of sending SMS alerts and other mode of communications.

Is Annual Pass mandatory or what if road user doesn’t want to opt for Annual Pass?
The Annual Pass is not mandatory, existing FASTag ecosystem will continue to operate as is. Users who do not opt for the Annual Pass can continue to use their FASTag for regular transactions as per applicable user fee rates at fee plazas.
