    Lawyer hurls shoe at CJI over remarks in Vishnu idol plea

    The Supreme Court witnessed a shocking incident on Monday after a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India, B R Gavai. The man, a 71-year-old identified as Rakesh Kishore, threw a sports shoe at the CJI during the proceedings in Court No 1. The accused allegedly made reference to a comment the CJI had made while hearing a plea that had triggered controversy. Police recovered a note from Kumar saying, “India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma”. During the hearing of the plea on the restoration of a Lord Vishnu idol in a temple in Khajuraho, the CJI had orally suggested that the petitioner should ask the deity himself to do something.     French PM Sebastien Lecornu resigns after less than a month in office

    French President Emmanuel Macron suffered yet another political setback on Monday after Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that he is stepping down from the post. Lecornu, who became the French PM on September 9, did not even complete a month in office before quitting abruptly. His resignation also came hours after Lecornu announced the initial list of 18 ministers in his cabinet. France has seen four prime ministers quit since January 2024. Read more

    DGCA to investigate Air India Boeing 787 RAT deployment

    The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will investigate the unexpected and uncommanded deployment of the ram air turbine (RAT) — a last-resort emergency power system of an Air India Boeing 787-8 aircraft on Saturday. The RAT system deployed on AI117 from Amritsar to Birmingham shortly before landing when the aircraft was at an altitude of just 400 feet. RAT was also deployed on Air India Flight 171, which was also a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 260 people moments after it took off from the airport. Read more

    Weight loss drug Mounjaro’s maker Eli Lilly to manufacture in Telangana

    US pharma giant Eli Lilly has announced that it will set up a new contract manufacturing facility in Telangana. According to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Eli Lilly will invest $1 billion in the state. All of Eli Lilly’s production would be branded drugs, including the popular weight loss drug Mounjaro. The company will invest in new medicines to treat diabetes, obesity and autoimmune conditions and will begin recruitment immediately. Telangana and Hyderabad, in particular, is known as the Pharma Capital of India and is home to some of the biggest names in the industry. Read more

    Dalit man lynched over ‘drone chor’ rumours in UP’s Raebareli

    A 38-year-old Dalit man was allegedly lynched in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli by villagers, accusing him of being a “drone chor”. According to the police, the victim’s body was found near a railway track in Unchahar on October 2. Later, a video emerged on social media showing the man being brutally beaten by a group of villagers, who were heard demanding that he reveal the name of his alleged accomplices. The incident comes amid widespread rumours across the state that people are using drones to steal from homes. Read more
