The government has no intention to accreditate universities or institutes and the job would be done by professional bodies,HRD minister Kapil Sibal said here today.
“The government has nothing to do with accreditation of universities and institutes for which a National Accreditation Authority Bill was tabled in Parliament,” Sibal told an interaction organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Sibal said although he had brought the legislation in the monsoon session,it was not passed in Parliament.
“The stakeholders do not share the vision. If political parties do not allow the Parliament to function,then how legislations will be passed ?” he asked.
He said that the gross enrolment ratio had increased from 12.4 per cent to 20 per cent at present.
“We have to meet the target gross enrolment ratio of 30 per cent by 2020,” he said.
Calling for reforms in school and higher education,he said that there was need to change the examination pattern and also to change the way how a child learns.
The minister also warned private institutes duping students by adopting malpractices.
He said that the national knowledge network built at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore through the fibre optic network would connect all gram panchayats in 36 months.
