In what officials said was a major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime, police in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district arrested a man accused of being a shooter in the Rohit Godara gang while he was trying to avoid detection by disguising himself as a woman.
The gangster, identified as Abhishek and also known as Batar, has multiple cases registered against him in police stations across Rajasthan. He also carried a bounty of Rs 25,000.
According to Superintendent of Police Devendra Bishnoi, police personnel from the Quick Response Team (QRT) conducted an operation based on precise intelligence to arrest Abhishek from Behror, where he was allegedly planning a crime. Police said he was found wearing ghagra choli in an effort to avoid getting caught.
During the arrest, police recovered three country-made pistols, 12 live cartridges, and one extra magazine from his possession. SP Bishnoi said that 21-year-old Abhishek, who is from Molahera under Paniyala police station, has eight criminal cases registered against him in various police stations. A fresh case under the Arms Act and sections the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against him at Behror police station.
The SP said that he was caught after a chase on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway in Behror on Tuesday. Cases have been registered against him in police stations in Sikar, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, and Behror. Investigations are underway to determine where he obtained the weapons.
Constables Manoj Kumar of QRT Kotputli and Baldev of QRT Behror played a crucial role in the operation, police said.
