Headlining the issue of trade talks in his 25 minute speech, US Vice President JD Vance said, “When President Trump and Prime Minister Modi announced in February that our country's aim to more than double our bilateral trade to $500 billion by the end of the decade, I know that both of them meant and I'm encouraged by everything our nations are doing to get us there. As many of you are aware, both of our governments are hard at work on a trade agreement built on shared priorities by creating new jobs, building durable supply chains and achieving prosperity for our workers.”

“In our meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Modi and I made very good progress on all of those points, and we are especially excited to formally announce that America and India have officially finalized Terms of Reference for the trade negotiation. I think this is a vital step.

“I believe this is a vital step toward realizing President Trump's and Prime Minister Modi's vision, because it sets a roadmap toward a final deal between our nations. I believe there is much that America and India can accomplish together,” he said.

US Vice President JD Vance, while speaking on US-India relations, said the United States is seeking to build a future with India based on mutual respect, innovation, and shared goals. “The most profound responsibility is to give a better society for the next generation,” he said, adding, “This is the world that America seeks to create with you. We want to build a bright new world — one that's constantly innovating, helping people to form families, making it easier to build, invest, and trade together in pursuit of common goals.”

Vance further added that the US has come to India not to lecture, but as a genuine partner: “We are not here to preach.” Criticising previous US administrations, he said they viewed India as merely a source of low-cost labour while simultaneously criticising Prime Minister Modi’s government, “arguably the most popular in the democratic world.”

“I told PM Modi, he got approval ratings that would make me jealous.” He added that this outdated attitude was not limited to India, but reflected a broader problem in US economic relations around the world. (PTI)

In his speech on Tuesday, US Vice President JD Vance described the finalisation of the terms of reference (ToR) as a vital step towards strengthening the India-US trade relationship.

He pointed out that the US seeks "fair trade, not transshipments of goods from a third country."

As first reported by The Indian Express on April 2, India signed the ToR just ahead of the scheduled implementation of reciprocal tariffs, following intervention from the Prime Minister's Office.

US Vice President JD Vance said, "I believe there is much that America and India can accomplish together."

He went on to mention key areas of collaboration between the two nations, stating, "America does more military exercises with India than with any other nation on Earth. Second, we aim to build great things together. And finally, to innovate the cutting-edge technologies both our countries will need in the years to come."

Delivering a lecture on US-India ties at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, US Vice President JD Vance says," There's a vitality to India, a sense of infinite possibility of new homes to be built, new skylines to be raised, and lives to be enriched, and there's a pride in being Indian, a feeling of excitement about the days that lie ahead now...."

Speaking at an event in Rajasthan's Jaipur, US Vice President JD Vance says, "....President Trump wants America to grow. He wants India to grow, and he wants to build a future with our partners all the way."

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma posted on X, "It was an honour to welcome the Vice President of the USA, Mr. JD Vance, along with his family, to the historic Amer Fort in Jaipur today."

The Amber Fort is situated in the Aravalli mountain range, nearly 11 km from the centre of Jaipur. It is an extensive palace complex built with pale yellow, pink sandstone and white marble. The fort is divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyards.

Amber was the capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs before they shifted their capital to Jaipur. Man Singh I started the construction of the new palace complex at the end of the 16th century.

After Raja Man Singh I, Mirza Raja Jai Singh I and Sawai Jai Singh II made some modifications, including to the interiors of the fort.

The fort was constructed in four stages, and the palace inside was the residence of the Rajput Maharajas and their families. (PTI)

Vance, accompanied by his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri, their three children -- Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel -- departed the luxurious Rambagh Palace Hotel, surrounded by tight security, and reached the UNESCO World Heritage site at around 9.30 am. They received a red carpet welcome.

As they entered the main courtyard -- Jaleb Chowk -- two decorated female elephants named Chanda and Mala greeted them by raising their trunks, an official said.

On US-India relations amid VP JD Vance's visit, BJP leader and former ambassador of India to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said, "Any relationship in the world, including our domestic relations at home, is complicated. The complications were there earlier too. My own approach is that these challenges must be converted into opportunities. This issues is also similar in kind. Though it has become huge because its a worldwide phenomena. That doesn't mean the strategic relation between the US and India should be pushed under the carpet."

"I am sure that the balance of trade in the larger term will be sorted out. You know that our top negotiator - the commerce secretary of India -- would shortly be travelling to the US. They will have their top negotiator coming here."

"I have worked with President Trump in his first Administration, and...he came to Ahmedabad. In the beginning he was a bit sceptical about coming for the visit because the elections were very near. That's very my confidence comes...ultimately he himself calls..US-India has many dimensions - trade is just one part of it. Trade will also get sorted out...be a bit patient...look at this relationship...in the coming days, you will see the contours emerging," he added.

BJP leader and former ambassador of India to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu said, "In the republican party he has emerged as a leading figure. If you look at his history, you will see that he comes from a very ordinary family. He has struggled and come right on top. He was in Yale -- that's where he met his wife Usha (Vance)."

"JD Vance's presence here right in the beginning of the second Trump administration holds his own significance. And he is going to have an important meeting with the Prime Minister, and also its a cultural visit...to the country...he is very closely invested with his family," he added.

US Vice-President JD Vance has reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence -- 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

His meeting with the Prime Minister is expected to be on early finalization of a proposed bilateral trade pact.

Motorists have been advised to avoid major routes including Air Force Road, Thimmayya Marg, Parade Road, Gurgaon Road, Sardar Patel Marg.

No-parking orders are in place at Sardar Patel Marg, Gurgaon Road, Parade Road, Thimmayya Marg, and Air Force Road.

Additional parking restrictions will be in effect from 6 pm to 9 pm on Kemal Ataturk Road, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Parade Road, Gurgaon Road, Air Force Road, Thimmayya Marg, Dhaula Kuan flyover. Nearby areas such as NH-48, GDR, and PDR are also included.

US Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence for official talks. The meeting is expected to be on early finalisation of the proposed bilateral trade pact.

The meeting comes amid rising concerns about China's growing influence in the Indo-Pacific.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra will also be present in the meeting.

Following the talks, PM Modi will host Vance’s family and the accompanying US officials -- at least five senior officials, including from the Pentagon and the State Department -- for dinner.

On US Vice President JD Vance's visit to Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, Meera Sondagar, a volunteer, said, "US Vice President JD Vance, along with his wife and children, visited the Akshardham Temple. Several arrangements were made for his security. He was welcomed by the saints and our volunteers, and he was shown the entire Akshardham Temple. He was very much impressed with the Gajendra Peeth, and he experienced peace during his visit to the temple."

The US vice-president and Second lady walked down the stairs of Air Force 2 at 9.50 am, holding hands and without their children. While Vance wore a blue suit and red tie, Usha Vance emerged in a long, sleeveless coral dress, and at some point soon after reaching the bottom of the steps, had draped a white blazer over her shoulders.

While Vance was accorded the ceremonial guard of honour, Usha Vance watched on. Their children emerged from the plane: the boys in kurtas and Mirabel in a lehenga. The family then went towards dancers, who were on a small platform, briefly watched them, and posed for some photos.
