Day after minor girl’s suicide in Chhattisgarh school hostel, principal arrested as note mentions ‘bad touch’

Police said their preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was allegedly sexually harassed by the principal around a week before her death. She left a suicide note suggesting sexual harassment, police said.

“She was sweeping the classroom when the principal sexually harassed her,” a police officer alleged.

“The girl had informed her friends about it, but not her parents,” the officer said. According to the officer, the accused had learned that she had told her friends about the incident, following which he allegedly threatened her.

Jashpur Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh said, “Based on her suicide note, an FIR was registered on Monday under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 74 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as section 75 (cruelty to child) of the Juvenile Justice Act and section 8 (sexual assault) of POCSO Act. The accused has been arrested.”
