Dalit teen sexually harassed on road in North Goa, locals say cops didn’t act

According to an FIR lodged on Tuesday night, the accused allegedly abused the minor and passed derogatory and casteist remarks. The complaint, lodged by the minor’s father, also alleged that the accused tore the girl’s shirt “and thereby outraged her modesty and further threatened her with dire consequences”.

On Tuesday night, the victim’s family and local residents protested at the police station, alleging police inaction in the case and demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

Police have ordered an inquiry into the alleged delay in the probe. The accused is absconding and teams have been formed to take him into custody, police said.

The FIR was registered under BNS sections 352 (intention insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 79 (words, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and under the Goa Children Act and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
