The Delhi High Court asked the police to strictly impose noise pollution norms in the city during ongoing festival season but wanted the decibel test to be conducted fairly.

“Please ensure that (decibel) test is conducted properly. It should be a fair test as these days dandiya is on. Conduct test on the other side of the road where people live,” Justice Sanjiv Khanna said.

The Court’s remarks came while hearing a petition filed by a co-operative housing society of South Delhi which had sought its intervention in directing the police to ensure that noise pollution norms are not violated.

The petition filed by advocate Priyanka Aggarwal pointed out that a club in Pancheel Park colony was holding festival functions in violation on noise pollution norms set up by the apex court.

The apex court,in its verdict in 2005,had restricted the use of loudspeakers and musical instruments between 10:00 pm to 6.00 am.
