Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation for development projects worth Rs 34,400 crore in Chhattisgarh while targeting the Congress over “nepotism, corruption and appeasement”.
Addressing the gathering at an indoor stadium in Raipur, Modi thanked the people of Chhattisgarh for bringing back the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.
He said: “Chhattisgarh has diligent farmers, dynamic youth and a treasure of natural resources — everything needed to be a developed state. But after Independence, those who ruled the country for a long time had a narrow vision. The Congress formed the government many times but forgot to envision the future of the country.”
The ten projects unveiled Saturday related to coal, solar energy, railway and roads. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and his cabinet ministers were present at the event. The PM said when India becomes the world’s third-largest economy in the next five years, Chhattisgarh will reach new heights of development.
Modi targeted the Congress for “dynastic politics”, saying: “They think about their children’s future but your dreams are my resolution… Congress cannot think beyond nepotism, corruption and appeasement.”
On corruption, the PM said he has fulfilled his promise of bringing back the money of the poor and punished those who looted the money. The PM said when the Congress was in power, its own Prime Minister had said that when New Delhi sends a rupee to a village, only 15 paisa reaches it.
Modi said: “One Congress PM had said about his own government that we send one rupee from Delhi and only 15 paise reaches the village with the remaining getting eaten up by middlemen. Imagine if the situation was the same today. In the last 10 years, we gave Rs 34 lakh crore by direct benefit transfer to your account. If it was the Congress government and the same thing continued, you would not have got Rs 24 lakh crore, some middlemen would have eaten it.”
The government was transforming the “annadata” (food producer) into “urjadata” (power producer) by assisting farmers to set up small-scale solar plants on barren farmlands, Modi said.
He said: “When corrupt activities stop, development activities begin and people get job opportunities. The broad roads, new rail lines are due to BJP’s good governance. In the 21st century by fulfilling modern requirements, the idea of a viksit (developed) Chhattisgarh will be fulfilled. When India becomes the world’s third-largest economy in the next five years, Chhattisgarh will reach new heights of development.”
