Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasised the importance of social media and IT in the Northeast region while speaking at the ‘Shankhnaad’ program, a nationwide digital training initiative by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Saha said, “Social media and IT are two sides of the same coin. IT would look after technical issues while social media volunteers create narrative in society. One needs to get deeper and have latest knowledge on the tip of the tongue. Nationalistic consciousness gets blocked mentally and we need to come out of it. Many social media volunteers worked with me when I was in charge of the membership drive”.

He also cited various developmental initiatives in Tripura, including improved transportation infrastructure, strong internet connectivity, and welfare schemes for youth and tribal development.

“We have decided to train our youths outside the state to make them crack campus interviews. We are providing bicycles, scooties, and scholarships to them to help them pursue their studies. We have also allocated Rs. 600 crores in the budget for tribal development. We are providing financial support by giving money in hand only, we are also spending money through different departments,” he said.

He criticised opposition parties, particularly Congress and CPIM, and underscored the achievements of the BJP government. Saha also dismissed allegations of underdevelopment, pointing to initiatives like Ujjwala Yojana, sanitation facilities, and road construction.

“They complain of underdevelopment. Don’t they see Ujjwala yojana, sanitary facilities, road construction? They do block roads and create disturbances while Modiji worked for poverty alleviation. No peaceful Assembly elections happened here like 2023,” he said.

BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharya also emphasised the significance of IT and social media in the present political landscape. He stressed that these platforms are crucial for election victories and announced plans for workshops to discuss technical aspects of using social media effectively.

“We want to gift both the Lok Sabha seats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We want to see him as our PM again. Social media are the biggest weapons to win elections. JP Naddaji organised Shankhnaad programmes throughout the country to focus on these platforms,” he said.
