Eight functionaries, including spokespersons, of the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit have been served notices by the police for allegedly posting hateful content on social media, police said Friday.
Police said the eight BJP functionaries have been asked to appear before the police and present factual statements related to such posts.
The eight are party treasurer Nandan Jain, IT cell in-charge for Chhattisgarh BJP Sunil Pillai; spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava; BJP trade cell president and spokesperson Kedarnath Gupta; BJP Yuva morcha board president Yogi Sahu; Yuva Morcha divisional coordinator Kamal Sharma; DD Nagar Yuva Morcha president Shubhankar and party worker Bittu Panigrahi.
The notice came four days after the Congress party complained to the Raipur police and accused the BJP members of spreading hate through social media, including the party’s official handle.
One of the notices sent by police cites the communal violence in Biranpur village in Bemetara district, where a 23-year-old was killed. The notices also said the BJP functionaries had made derogatory comments against CM Bhupesh Baghel.
