Centre eyes Rs 400 crore revenue from scrap disposal in third leg of special campaign

The Centre is eyeing a revenue of Rs 400 crore from non-ferrous scrap disposal during the ‘Special Campaign 3.0’ for cleanliness and reducing pendency, which is set to begin on September 15, 2023, a top official said on Tuesday.

The revenue target has been conveyed to all ministries and other bodies, including some PSUs and banks during the 2nd preparatory meeting of nodal officers held on Tuesday.
In all, the Centre has earned Rs 511.3 crore from the sale of non-ferrous scrap in the last one year.
As per the guidelines of the Special Campaign 3.0, it will be organised in two phases—preparatory phase from September 15 to September 30, and implementation phase from October 2-31. The campaign will be launched officially by Minister of State Jitendra Singh on September 14, 2023.
“Campaign will focus on liquidating pendency in the MPs references, references from the state governments, inter-ministerial references, parliamentary assurances, PMO references, public grievances and PG appeals,” state the guidelines circulated by the DARPG.
The move to hold a special campaign for cleanliness and reducing pendency comes after the Council of Ministers, which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4, decided to adopt the saturation approach in implementation of programmes.
It was after the Council of Ministers meeting that Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba wrote to all Secretaries, seeking their “personal involvement” for the success of the campaign.
Apart from setting a target of earning revenue of Rs 400 crore, the Centre also aims at freeing up 100 lakh square feet of space. In the ‘Special Campaign 2.0’ 90 lakh square feet space was freed. In all, 172.71 lakh square feet of space has been freed till July 2023 through special campaigns.
