The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday dismissed BJP’s allegation that the Delhi government had spent over Rs 45 crore of taxpayers’ money on the renovation of Delhi CM’s Civil Lines residence. “By stoking controversy around Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejirwal’s house, the BJP is trying to divert attention from big, serious issues such as Pulwama and the Adani scam,” Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said in a press conference.
He added, “The LG niwas repair work cost Rs 15 crore, and PM Narendra Modi, who claims to be a fakir (monk), is spending Rs 500 crore on the new PM house.”
“Our PM wears a suit worth Rs.10 lakh, and uses a pen worth Rs. 1.9 lakh. The car he travels in with his cavalcade is worth Rs 12 crore,” Singh said, launching a scathing attack on the PM.
Earlier, AAP had released a statement saying that the property that was rebuilt did not belong to the CM but was a government-allotted house.
“The house was in a dilapidated state, having been built… in 1942. After three serious incidents, which included the ceiling of the CM’s parents’ room falling, the ceiling of CM’s bedroom collapsing, and office ceiling collapsing, the Public Works Department recommended construction of a new house,” the statement read.
What the BJP alleges
Alleging the Delhi government had spent over Rs 45 crore of taxpayers’ money on the project, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Bidhuri called Kejriwal a “luxurious king”.
In a separate press conference on Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed the Kejriwal as a “maharaj” and said even kings will bow to Kejriwal for his choice of “superior” products in the residence and his “lust for luxury and comfort”.
One of the eight new curtains purchased for the residence cost over Rs 7.94 lakhs while the cheapest was Rs 3.57 lakh, Patra told reporters. Citing documents, the BJP spokesperson said marbles worth over Rs 1.15 cr were brought from Vietnam while Rs 4 cr was spent on pre-fabricated wooden walls.
