The Lok Sabha Committee of Privileges on Tuesday ordered Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh and former Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri to appear before it on September 21 for “further examination” on oral evidence in connection with Godda MP Nishikant Dubey’s “breach of privilege” letters against Bhajantri, and the latter’s missive against Dubey on levelling “false and baseless allegations” against him.

Bhajantri had earlier appeared before the committee on May 18.

Dubey had written to Speaker Om Birla on September 5, 2022, alleging that Bhajantri had committed “unpardonable breach of privilege” and cited two instances of “harassment”: treatment meted out to him during a flight take-off on August 31, and alleged collusion with the “land mafia” in selling lands.

Bhajantri wrote to the LS Secretariat on June 4 this year, calling Dubey’s allegations — made on social media on June 3, on alleged sale of a piece of trust land in Deoghar and issuance of a land possession certificate — “baseless”. He wrote: “…since the posting of the undersigned in Deoghar district, no LPC of any kind has been issued related to…the Trust…”

In the ATC row, the Deoghar administration had registered an FIR against Dubey and his two sons on August 31, 2022. In a counter-FIR on Dubey’s complaint, Delhi Police registered a sedition case against Bhajantri and “other Jharkhand Police Officers” for allegedly going to “restricted section of Deoghar airport” and thereby “playing with national security”.

Jharkhand High Court had quashed the FIR against Dubey in March this year. The state government had stated plans to appeal against the HC order in the Supreme Court.
