A high-level executive meeting chaired by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, adopted several resolutions, including expediting the initiative to restore peace in the state, on Wednesday.

The meeting, convened at the state BJP office in Imphal, was attended by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, BJP Northeast Region in-charge Sambit Patra, state cabinet ministers, and MLAs.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister revealed that speeding up the peace initiative to restore normalcy was one of the resolutions adopted at Wednesday’s meeting.

“We are all aware that talks between both communities had begun to restore peace under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The state has witnessed normalcy returning in many parts,” he said.

Biren further stated that the meeting also discussed taking necessary steps in connection with the recent floods that occurred in Manipur. The meeting also discussed monitoring the issues of relief camps established for the displaced people affected by the crisis. A committee headed by Manipur’s cabinet minister K Govindas has already been established. However, to effectively monitor the relief process, a sub-committee was also formed during the meeting, added Singh.

Notably, the 12-hour total shutdown imposed by the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) in all the areas inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community paralysed life in the hill districts, particularly the Kuki-Zo areas.

The shutdown commenced on Wednesday from 6 am to 6 pm, to protest the arrest of three members from their community by a combined team of personnel from the CRPF and Assam Rifles at L Hengjol village in Kangpokpi district. The visiting Union Minister, however, declined to provide any comments.
