Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called the Bihar Assembly election outcome “truly surprising” and promised a review in his first reaction to the Mahagathbandhan alliance’s rout in the polls. The party managed to win only six seats.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha took to social media platform X to thank voters who backed the Mahagathbandhan and said INDIA bloc will conduct a detailed review of the results to strengthen its fight to “protect the Constitution and democracy”.
Rahul said he was grateful to the “millions of voters in Bihar” who reposed their faith in the Opposition alliance. “This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We could not achieve victory in an election that was not fair from the very beginning,” he wrote.
He added that the battle was not limited to one state. “This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA alliance will deeply review this result and make their efforts to save democracy even more effective,” it said.
The NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the BJP, swept the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls, securing three-fourth majority in 243-member Bihar Assembly, bagging 183 seats.
