Bihar Election 2025: Congress announces second list of candidates as Mahagathbandhan finalize seat sharing

According to the proposed schedule, the chief minister will embark on a one-day visit to Bihar to boost his party's (BJP) campaign momentum, addressing a major election rally in Dumra, Sitamarhi.

Congress on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections, unveiling names for key constituencies including Narkatiaganj, Purnia, Kishanganj, Kasba, and Gaya Town.  This comes after RJD leader Mritunjay Tiwari earlier today said that  Mahagathbandhan has finalised its seat sharing and any confusion regarding any seats will be solved and announced soon. The CPI(ML) Liberation, a constituent of the INDIA bloc in Bihar, on Saturday released its list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, renominating all its 12 sitting MLAs. The party has fielded new faces in constituencies it could not win in the 2020 Assembly polls. In the last elections, the Left party had contested 19 seats and won 12.  The last day of filing nominations for the first phase of elections ended yesterday (Friday).

Amit Shah in Bihar: Today marks the third and final day of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to poll-bound Bihar. Addressing a rally in Patna, Shah said this will be the first time voting in Bihar will continue till 5 pm as “the state is now free of Naxalites.” He also urged voters to “opt for politics of performance, not for parties like the Congress or RJD that promote dynasts.” Shah earlier visited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence as part of his Bihar tour.

First phase voting on November 6: The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections will take place on November 6, with the second phase of voting on November 11. More than 7.4 crore electors of the state will cast their votes. The counting of votes will take place on November 14.

Bihar election 2025 LIVE updates: JMM to contest Bihar polls independently, ‘review' alliance in Jharkhand

The JMM on Saturday announced that it will contest the Bihar assembly polls independently, and said the party would “review” its alliance with the Congress and RJD in Jharkhand after the elections in the neighbouring state.

Addressing a press conference, JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said the party will field candidates in six seats in Bihar.

Elections to 243 seats of the Bihar assembly will be held on November 6 and November 11, and the votes will be counted on November 14.

“The party has decided to contest the Bihar polls on its own. It will contest six assembly seats – Chakai, Dhamdaha, Katoria (ST), Manihari (ST), Jamui and Pirpainti (SC),” Bhattacharya said.

These seats will go to polls in the second phase on November 11.--PTI

With less than two weeks to go for the Bihar assembly polls, Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha on Saturday said that the ruling party had demanded that the assembly polls be held in one phase, citing an improvement in the law and order situation.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Mahagathbandhan in deadlock over seats

Reflecting the confusion and the tussle within, the Opposition Mahagathbandhan in Bihar failed to announce a seat-sharing pact Friday as nominations closed for the first of the two-phase Assembly elections in the state.

Partners of the alliance filed nomination papers for all 121 seats going to polls in the first phase – the total strength of the Bihar House is 243 – while talks continued to end the deadlock over seats. The last date for filing nominations for the remaining 122 seats in the second phase is Monday.

The Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, Congress, CPI (ML-L), CPI (M), CPI and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), still has to resolve the fight for seats in over a dozen constituencies.

Election fever gripped Bihar on Friday as the filing of nomination papers for the first phase of Assembly polls concluded, with the ruling NDA projecting a resolute campaign in sharp contrast to the disarray seen in the opposition INDIA bloc.

According to the Election Commission, more than 1,250 candidates filed their papers for the 121 seats which go to polls on November 6, and the number was likely to go up as data was still flowing in from districts.

Jharkhand Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu on Friday said he has informed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav about the seats the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is keen to contest in the Bihar Assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters, Sonu said he discussed the issue during a recent meeting in Patna, highlighting the potential advantages the INDIA bloc would gain from JMM's participation, particularly in terms of vote consolidation.

The minister said he had raised these points before the RJD during the INDIA alliance meeting on October 6.

He added that at the same meeting, it was decided that Chief Minister Hemant Soren and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav would discuss the matter between them.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: EC asks agencies to combat movement of cash, liquor, other inducements during polls

The Election Commission on Friday asked enforcement agencies and security forces to take pro-active and preventive action during the Bihar elections to ensure drugs, liquor and cash are not used to sway voters.

The meeting was held to prepare a comprehensive roadmap to combat the pernicious effects of cash and other inducements in elections, the poll authority said.

The different agencies briefed the commission regarding their preparation, steps taken and proposed to be taken for ensuring inducement free elections.

The briefings were on a wide-range of topics pertaining to curbing the use of money and other inducements to vitiate elections were made, the EC said.

The commission instructed that there should be co-operation and sharing of intelligence of economic offences amongst law enforcement agencies for effective action.--PTI
