A court in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday extended the custody of the three railway employees arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the triple train crash at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district that claimed 293 lives.
The three accused — senior section engineer Arun Kumar Mahanta, section engineer Md Amir Khan and technician Pappu Kumar — arrested on July 7 were produced before the court after the completion of their five-day remand.
Though the CBI sought further extension of their remand by five days, the court granted four.
The CBI has charged the trio under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Besides the three accused, the central probe agency has also summoned few other railway officials for interrogation, said official sources.
