A head constable was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by her husband in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district following a heated argument over cooking, police said.
Savita Saket and her husband, Virendra, lived in government police quarters in Sidhi and had two children, police said, adding that the incident took place on Monday night at the couple’s residence.
According to police, Virendra allegedly picked up a baseball bat and repeatedly struck his wife during an altercation, leading to her death.
The baseball bat was recovered from the spot, officials said.
Savita Saket had been posted at the Kamarji police station in Sidhi district, while her husband was self-employed, an official said.
After allegedly committing the crime, Virendra fled from the spot and efforts were on to track him down, police said.
According to officials, as soon as the police received information about the incident, senior officers in the district, including Rewa Range DIG Hemant Chauhan and Superintendent of Police Santosh Kori, took stock of the situation. Authorities also organised a condolence meeting for the victim at the Police Lines.
DIG Chauhan said, “This incident is extremely tragic. It is an irreparable loss for our police department. We have immediately provided financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh. Whatever else is required in the future, we will give full support. She has been given a farewell with state honours. The accused will be arrested soon. The SP has ordered blockades across the entire district.”
Savita’s daughter said that there had been a “heated argument between the couple over cooking”. She said she “informed the neighbours about this”, but by the time they reached their house, her “father had fled from the spot”.
