Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched IFFCO’s liquid nano Di-Ammonia Phosphate (DAP) on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Shah said, “The launch of IFFCO’s liquid DAP nano is an important beginning towards making India self-reliant in the field of fertilizers.”

The first Nano DAP (Liquid) has been launched in the world today, Shah said. This revolutionary step will not only take Indian agriculture forward in foodgrain production but it will also make India self-reliant in fertilizer production also, he added.

Nano DAP is manufactured by the cooperative major IFFCO. Recently, the Centre had notified the Nano DAP in the Fertilizer Control Order, which regulates the sale, pricing, and distribution of fertilizers in the country.

Discussing the role of the cooperative sector in fertilizer production in the country, Shah said, out of the total fertilizer production of 384 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) in the country, 132 LMT has been contributed by the cooperative societies. Of the 132 lakh metric tonnes, 90 LMT have been produced by IFFCO, he said.

In May 2021, the IFFCO launched Nano Urea.

Amit Shah informed that 6.3 crore bottles of Nano urea have been manufactured till March 2023. As a result, import of urea in the country has decreased by seven lakh metric tonnes in 2021-22, he said.

Shah said that a goal has been set to reduce the usage of granular DAP by about 90 lakh metric tons through liquid DAP. Eighteen crore liquid DAP bottles will be produced in the country, he said.

Observing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created a separate Ministry of Cooperation to “revive, strengthen and to make the cooperative sector dynamic”, Shah said that in order to strengthen the cooperative sector, the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) will have to be strengthened first. For this, the Ministry of Cooperation has decided that in the next 5 years, new multi-dimensional PACS will be created in 2 lakh panchayats of the country, he said

Shah further said that the model bye-laws of PACS have been sent to the states and 17 states have also adopted these model bye-laws. He said that under the Multidimensional PACS, a single PACS would be created by combining four PACS providing multi-usage services, fisheries, providing financial loans to farmers and dairy.
