Aircel-Maxis case: ED opposes Chidambaram’s bail plea, seeks custodial interrogation

Opposing former union minister P Chidambaram’s bail plea in connection with the Aircel-Maxis case, the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday sought custodial interrogation of Congress leader P Chidambaram in the Aircel-Maxis money laundering case. ED said that Chidambaram has remained evasive and was not cooperative in the probe against him in which his son is also an accused, PTI reported.

On October 25, the probe agency had filed a charge sheet against Chidambaram in the case, accusing him of conspiring with foreign investors to clear their venture.

The hearing on Chidambaram’s plea will take place before Special Judge O P Saini on Thursday. The court had on October 8 extended till November 1 the interim protection from arrest granted to Chidambaram and his son Karti. The two were named in the chargesheet filed in the case by the CBI and the ED.

Chidambaram had filed the plea for protection from arrest in the ED case on May 30 this year after which he got relief from the court on various occasions.
