New Delhi railway station Yatri Suvidha Kendra: Ahead of Diwali, Indian Railways (IR) has completed the construction of a permanent holding area at New Delhi railway station. This permanent holding area has been built towards Ajmeri Gate of New Delhi Railway Station premises to ensure smooth management of passengers during festivals, when the crowd of passengers increases. The center is designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers at any given time.
On Saturday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the newly built permanent holding area at New Delhi railway station. He recalled that the station, which often witnesses sudden crowd surges, had introduced a temporary holding area two years ago as an experiment-an initiative that proved highly beneficial for arriving passengers. Building on its success, the Railways has now established a permanent facility named ‘Yatri Suvidha Kendra’, Vaishnaw said.

“The permanent holding area will greatly benefit passengers without reserved tickets, as they can now purchase tickets directly from the facility,” Vaishnaw said.

He added that new ticket counters are being opened and the area is equipped with modern amenities, including over 150 toilets, RO drinking water and comfortable seating arrangements for passengers.
Earlier, the Ministry of Railways planned to develop permanent holding areas at major stations, including New Delhi, to manage large crowds during peak travel seasons. The holding area project of New Delhi railway station has been divided into three functional zones: Pre Ticketing Area, Ticketing Area and Post Ticketing Area.

Apart from these, the following facilities shall be available to passengers in this dedicated holding area:
Ticketing: 22 modern ticketing counters and 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).
Capacity & Comfort: Seating capacity for 200 passengers and 18 High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) Fans for efficient cooling.
Sanitation & Water: A dedicated toilet block built over 652 sqm, along with an RO-based drinking water system.
Information & Safety: A robust passenger announcement system with 24 speakers, three LED electronic train information displays, and 7 units of modern fire-fighting system.
Security: State-of-the-art security measures including 18 CCTV cameras, 5 luggage scanners, and 5 Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD).
