Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan speaks to Punjab CM Mann, to visit flood-affected areas tomorrow

Union Agriculture Ministry officials said Shivraj Singh Chouhan will reach Amritsar tomorrow morning and then proceed to the flood-affected areas in Punjab.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Wednesday to enquire about the flood situation, and said he will visit the affected areas Thursday.

Chouhan spoke to the Punjab leaders over the phone in the morning.

In a post on X, Chouhan said, “Today, I discussed the flood situation arising due to heavy rainfall in Punjab with the Honorable Governor of Punjab, Chief Minister, and Agriculture Minister, and received detailed information.”

“I will reach Punjab tomorrow morning and meet my brothers and sisters in the flood-affected areas. In this hour of crisis, the Central Government stands firmly with the brothers and sisters of Punjab and will provide all possible assistance,” Chouhan said.

According to Agriculture Ministry officials, Chouhan will reach Amritsar on Thursday morning and then proceed to the flood-affected areas. The Union minister will also hold a high-level meeting with the Agriculture Minister and officials from the Punjab Government and the Centre, said an official.

Soon after landing in Delhi from his visit to Japan and China Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Mann and discussed the situation arising from the rain and floods in the state. The Prime Minister assured all help and support to the flood-hit state, according to sources.

On Tuesday, the Punjab Government declared all 23 districts flood-hit. and said 30 people have been killed, and more than 3.5 lakh have been affected so far.

Meanwhile, Mann sought an upward revision in the Centre’s relief norms, and again asked for the release of Punjab’s Rs 60,000 crore “pending” funds from the Centre. He said he is demanding the state’s “rights” and not “begging” for it in the wake of floods in the region.

On Monday, Chauhan discussed the flood situation in Punjab with his ministry’s officials in Delhi. During the meeting, senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry had briefed the minister about the impact of the flood on crops in Punjab.

“The Central Government is standing with Punjab in this hour of crisis and will provide all possible help,” the official said.
