India’s 79th Independence Day 2025 Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from Red Fort after hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day. During his speech, PM Modi spoke about India’s success during Operation Sindoor, farmers’ welfare and launched multiple schemes. One key announcement was the new GST reforms, set to kick in by Diwali and aimed at lowering the prices of daily-use commodities across the country. PM Modi also spoke about Mission Sudarshan Chakra, aimed at increasing safety and developing a more powerful weapons system for the nation’s security.

Longest ever speech by PM Modi: Delivered from the ramparts of Red Fort, PM Modi delivered his longest ever Independence Day speech, extending to a duration of 103 minutes. This was the longest speech delivered by any Prime Minister in India’s history. PM Modi, during his speech from the Red Fort, hailed the efforts of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor, and also gave a stern warning to Pakistan, saying that India will not give in to nuclear blackmail. Further, PM Modi launched a new scheme called Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgaar Yojana to promote employment, and spoke about Mission Sudarshan Chakra to boost India’s defence security.

PM Modi hails Operation Sindoor: While speaking about Operation Sindoor, PM Modi hailed the efforts of the armed forces during India’s military operation, and asserted that our country will not tolerate nuclear blackmail anymore. The Prime Minister said that we will give a befitting reply to the enemy, while asserting that it has now set a “new normal” of not differentiating between terrorists and those who nurture terrorism. PM Modi said Operation Sindoor was a manifestation of the anger that the country was feeling over the Pahalgam terror attack in which terrorists from across the border carried out a gruesome massacre, killing people after asking their religion.

"I wish to warn the country about a concern that is emerging as a crisis. As part of a premeditated conspiracy, the country's demography is being changed. Seeds of a new crisis are being sown," Modi said.

"These ghuspaithiyas (infiltrators) are snatching the bread and butter of our youth. These ghuspaithiyas are targeting our country's daughters and sisters. This will not be tolerated. These ghuspaithiyas are befooling innocent tribals and capturing their forest land. This country will not tolerate this," he said. (PTI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday delivered a 103-minute Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort, the longest by any prime minister in India's history.

Modi broke his own 98-minute record from the 78th Independence Day last year.

His longest Independence Day speech before 2024 was 96 minutes in 2016 while his shortest speech was in 2017 when he spoke for 56 minutes.

On India's 79th Independence Day, Modi also broke Indira Gandhi's record by delivering 12 consecutive speeches from Red Fort to stand next only to Jawaharlal Nehru who delivered 17 Independence Day addresses in a row.
