The security forces detained 15 Bangladeshi infiltrators and five Indian touts in three separate cases in Tripura’s Unakoti district in the past 24 hours, officials said Friday.
In one incident, 13 Bangladeshis – three women, three men, and seven children – were apprehended. Those detained are residents of Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Netragunj, Netrokona, and Barisal in Bangladesh.
Three Indian touts were also nabbed along with the Bangladeshis. The three have been identified as Kajal Das, resident of Silchar in neighbouring Assam, Ajit Das, resident of Unakoti district, and Prasenjit Debnath, resident of Dhalai district.
In another incident, two Indian touts were detained during a joint operation of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Moreover, two Bangladeshi nationals were detained Thursday while they were trying to cross over to Bangladesh.
Several Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya persons have been detained in Tripura recently, especially since Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state to join the 72nd Plenary meeting of the North East Council (NEC) in December last year and asked chief ministers to stay alert over drug smuggling and human trafficking.
