Vidya TV to launch next month: Punjab Education Minister Cheema

Punjab will soon be the first state in the country to have its own round-the-clock education channel. The government expects to start airing the channel, Vidya TV, from next month.

Announcing the launch, Punjab Education Minister Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema said the channel will provide quality content to those preparing for competitive examinations as well as middle school.

“It will begin with focus on higher classes like the X and XII. But gradually, it will include those from middle school as well,” Cheema said.

“Everyone has a TV as well as cable network at home these days and students can learn while watching this channel,” said Cheema, adding that even the poor students who cannot afford the costly coaching classes can learn a lot from the TV. The channel will also provide students with career counselling and programmes on current affairs. Punjab already has an EDUSAT programme, which runs around nine educational programmes with multimedia, and animation during school hours, in its 3400 schools.
