The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a new outreach measure aimed at improving awareness and participation in its recruitment processes. Under this initiative, educational institutions, universities, and professional bodies can now receive email notifications about UPSC recruitment advertisements relevant to their domains.
According to a notice, the initiative is designed to ensure that institutions stay informed about job openings that align with their academic and professional areas. UPSC, which recruits candidates for Group A and Group B gazetted posts in various ministries, departments, and Union Territories, receives over 200 such recruitment proposals annually. In 2025, more than 240 cases have already been received, spanning areas such as medicine, law, engineering, finance, forensic audit, and teaching.
Previously, UPSC recruitment advertisements were disseminated through its official website, the Employment News, and the Commission’s LinkedIn account. With this additional communication channel, institutions will now be able to receive these updates directly in their inboxes.
UPSC Chairman Dr Ajay Kumar highlighted some of the reasons for introducing this email alert service. He noted that disparities have been observed in the number of applications received for certain posts. In several instances, no suitable candidates meeting the recruitment criteria were found, either due to lack of awareness or a low number of applications. “Sometimes the posts remained vacant or become infructuous during the interview stage as suitable candidates are not found by the Interview Board,” he said.
The Commission believes that by directly informing relevant institutions, eligible candidates will be better positioned to apply. Dr. Kumar added that the initiative is meant to ensure that qualified individuals are not excluded from recruitment opportunities simply because they did not receive timely information.
As part of the initiative, UPSC will send email alerts to universities, associations, and other recognised professional bodies. Institutions that are not already in the loop but wish to receive these alerts can do so by sending a request to ra-upsc@gov.in with the subject line: “Subscription Request – UPSC Recruitment Alerts.”
In addition to emails, UPSC is also encouraging ministries and departments to promote recruitment advertisements on their own websites and social media platforms. There are plans to expand outreach further through public broadcasters and to explore technical options such as RSS feeds on the Commission’s website.
Dr Kumar also mentioned that UPSC is working to streamline recruitment requests from ministries by encouraging them to submit requisitions in advance, ideally during the January to March window. This allows the Commission to plan more efficiently, combine similar posts for common tests, and conduct recruitments within a fixed timeline.
With the addition of this email alert system and ongoing efforts to coordinate more closely with ministries, UPSC aims to make its recruitment process more accessible and timely for both institutions and candidates.
