UGC NET 2024 Updates: How to download NTA city intimation slip

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 has been released today by the Ministry of Education. This time, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has topped in the universities category. The second position is obtained by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi and the third spot has been secured by Jamia Millia Islamia respectively. Interestingly, the three varsities have continued their dominance from last year and have retained the same spot.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) has continued its dominance in the latest edition of the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) retaining as the number one institution of the country in the overall and engineering categories. The IITs have this year too dominated the top 10 ranking in the overall category.

The Ministry of Education is currently announcing the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024. In its ninth edition, three new categories have been introduced, namely ‘open universities’, ‘Skill universities’ and ‘State funded government universities’.

(i) The medium of Question Paper shall be in English & Hindi only, except language papers.
(ii) Option for medium of Question Paper should be carefully chosen by the Candidate, while filling the application form online. The option once exercised cannot be changed.
(iii) Candidates are required to answer in the medium as per option exercised in the Application Form.
(iv) In case of any ambiguity in translation/construction of a question in the exam, its English version shall be treated as final and the decision of NTA shall be final in this regard. 

(a) Each question carries 02 (two) marks.(b) For each correct response, candidate will get 02 (two) marks.
(c) There is no negative marking for incorrect response.
(d) No marks will be given for questions un-answered/un-attempted/marked for Review.
(e) To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as correct option.
(f) If a question is found to be incorrect/ambiguous or has multiple correct answers, only those candidates who have attempted the question and chosen one of the correct answers would be given the credit.
(g) If a question is found to be incorrect and the Question is dropped, then two marks (+2) will be awarded to only to those candidates who have attempted the question. The reason could be due to human error or technical error.

While the shift 1 will be held from 9 am to 12 noon, the UGC NET 2024 shift 2 exam will be held between 3 pm and 6 pm.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) said that the city slip would be released 10 days before the start of the exams. The UGC NET exams will be held from August 21 to September 4.

English, Japanese, Performing Art - Dance/Drama/Theatre and  electronic science will be held in the first shift of August 21. While English, Dogri, Spanish, Russian, Persian, comparative study of religions and hindu studies will be held in the second shift of August 21.

No, as of now the NTA has not released the UGC NET city slip. It is expected to release soon as the city slip is usually released 10 days prior to the exam, while the admit cards are released three days before the exam.

The NTA will display the question paper and attempted recorded responses by the candidates on the NTA website ugcnet.nta.nic.in prior to declaration of result. The question paper attempted and recorded responses are likely to be displayed for two to three days. Candidates are advised to download the response sheet for future. No copy of the response sheet will be provided by NTA after the declaration of result under RTI act

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct UGC – NET June 2024 for (i) ‘award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor’, (ii) ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.’ and (iii) ‘admission to Ph.D. only’ in 83 subjects in CBT, mode between 21st August 2024 to 04th September 2024.

NTA will display provisional answer key(s) and question paper attempted by the candidate on the NTA's website -- ugcnet.nta.ac.in, ugcnet.ntaonline.in. Exact date shall be displayed on the NTA’s website for the same after the commencement of the examination. The provisional answer key(s) are likely to be displayed for two to three days.

The candidates shall report at the examination centre two hours before the commencement of the examination so as to complete the frisking and registration formalities well before time. Registration desk will be closed 30 minutes prior to the examination.

? One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the online application form) for pasting on the specific space in the attendance sheet at centre during the examination. According to government sources, the CBI has found that the said screenshot of the question paper was manipulated in a way to create the impression that it was available before the examination. It is learnt that a candidate shared a photograph of the question paper on a Telegram channel around 2 pm, right after the first session of the UGC-NET. This photograph was then allegedly doctored to suggest that it had been available with people even before the examination. The exact nature of manipulation is not known.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had on Thursday said that the paper was leaked on darknet. “Soon after it was clear that the UGC-NET question paper on darknet matches the original question paper of UGC-NET, we decided to cancel the examination. We take responsibility and have to rectify the system,” Pradhan had said.

“A written complaint was received on 20.06.2024 from K Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi alleging that UGC NET-2024 was conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) on 18.06.2024 in two shifts across different cities of the country… that on 19.06.2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received inputs from National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the examination that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” the CBI FIR said.

A CBI investigation into the UGC-NET paper leak has found that the question paper might have leaked June 16, two days before the exam, which was released on the darknet and an encrypted social media channel and is suspected to have been sold for more than Rs 5 lakh, sources said.

However, sources said it is not known how and from where the paper was leaked and for this, the CBI is looking at the role of those who handled the question paper at various levels from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, to the examination centres.

Following a complaint from the Ministry of Education, the CBI on Thursday registered an FIR in the matter against unknown suspects for cheating and criminal conspiracy. The central agency is coordinating with the ministry and the NTA for its investigation.

The combined duration of the two papers is three hours, and both papers are meant to be attempted in one session without any break. Both papers consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs). A total of 150 questions are asked, with 50 questions in Paper 1 and 100 questions in Paper 2. There is no negative marking in the exam.

UGC-NET is conducted twice a year, in June and December. Although the NTA has been holding this test in computer-based test format since December 2018, it went back to pen-and-paper format this year.

The CBI has not made any arrests in the UGC-NET case so far. According to sources, the modus operandi was deciphered based on an analysis of the screenshot and digital trail of the messages exchanged on the Telegram channel where claims of the paper leak were made. The agency is expected to file a report in the case soon.

The CBI probe into the alleged UGC-NET paper leak has found that the “evidence”, which led the Education Ministry to cancel the exam just a day after over 9 lakh candidates appeared for it across 317 cities on June 18, was doctored, government sources told The Indian Express.

On June 19, the Centre canceled the exam crucial for entry-level teaching jobs and PhD admissions in Indian universities, following inputs from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) that “the integrity of the examination may have been compromised”.

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is considering a return to its traditional in-house entrance examinations for PhD admissions, potentially ending the responsibility of conducting the test outsourced with the National Testing Agency (NTA). This shift comes in the wake of the recent cancellation of the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) by the Indian government, citing potential integrity issues. Official sources have confirmed to The Indian Express that it will take 8 weeks to reach to the final decision.

“We have begun the process and we are taking into account the opinion of all the stakeholders while considering this decision,” JNU’s Vice Chancellor Santishree D Pandit said.

The India-Wide Parents Association (IWPA) has written a letter to the Ministry of Education, National Testing Agency (NTA), and University Grants Commission (UGC) requesting not to hold a re-exam of the UGC NET June session which was conducted across the country on June 18.

In the letter, the Association asks the concerned authorities to release the result of UGC NET as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out any paper leak. They contend that conducting a re-exam will be unjustified and an injustice to lakhs of candidates.

The June session of UGC NET was conducted on June 18 but was cancelled after accusations of paper leak were raised. On investigation, it was found that the paper was not leaked.

The city intimation slip carries the necessary information about the exam venue so that the student can travel and find accommodation before the day of exam.
